Virginia Beach, VA (February 12, 2020) – 2019 was a magical year for Chartway’s We Promise Foundation. Not only did the foundation work alongside its partners to provide life-changing experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness, but the foundation also had a outstanding year of its own – raising more than 1 million dollars. The incredible fundraising meant that the foundation had raised 11 million dollars from inception to date!

“We’re so excited to have the ability to bring more joy, hope, and smiles to our local communities.” said executive director Karen Lane. “2019 was such a huge year for We Promise; we celebrated over 8500 wishes coming true and raised more funds than ever, so that we may continue to do just that. It’s all about the Kids Heroes, and we’re proud to partner with more non-profits who share in our vision to help us spread smiles to these heroic kids!”
Since 1999, the credit union’s We Promise Foundation has raised more than $11 million and partnered with companion charities, sponsors, and contributors to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges.

We Promise Heroes: 18 We Promise heroes – children whose dreams have come true thanks to funds from the foundation – attended the 14th Annual We Promise Foundation Gala. They arrived by limousine and were greeted by enthusiastic applause and high-fives from volunteers.

Parker Cutting the Ribbon: Four-year-old Parker recently traveled to Walt Disney World thanks to a charitable grant from Chartway’s We Promise Foundation and the work of Make-A-Wish® Greater Virginia.

Brian Schools, Chartway President & CEO, with We Promise Hero, Koby: Brian Schools, Chartway president & CEO and We Promise Hero Koby were all smiles after Koby’s wish reveal. Thanks to funds from Chartway’s We Promise Foundation and the work of Toby’s Dream Foundation, Koby and his family will be recently traveled to California to visit the Hot Wheels Design Center, where Koby designed his very own Hot Wheels car!

Brian Schools and Rhyan: Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation hosted a Disney-themed wish reveal for two-year-old Rhyan who has a rare form of leukemia. More than 50 people, including Chartway’s president & CEO Brian Schools, attended the special celebration.

Approved for Play: In 2019, Chartway’s Senior Leadersip Team partnered with Roc Solid to construct a playground for local kid hero, Landon. At the end of the day, the team gave the seal of approval for the completed playground and officially declared it play ready!
